New York Times bestselling author Meg Cabot pitched in to keep her fans spirits high during the extended periods of COVID ‘stay at home’ time during the pandemic, publishing the ‘Corona Princess Diaries’ a free quarantine edition of the Princess Diaries available on the Meg Cabot website.
The Corona Princess Diaries – Day 1 was published on March 23rd with a new edition appearing each week, the most recent being June 29th, 2020.
Topics covered range from Princess Mia’s struggles to convince her grandmother to wear a mask, to a local bakery in her kingdom suing her for stopping the cruise ships from docking at Genovia.
The COVID take on everyday ‘royal’ scenarios are hilarious and no doubt familiar to many. For example this one from Day 12 on 15th April 2020 (when Princess Mia finally gets time to read her mail) “cracking open a bottle of pinot (one show never approach the mail these days sober), I carefully donned rubber gloves, then wiped down each envelope with Clorox wipes before slitting it open with my healing quartz encrusted letter opener (a wedding gift from Gwyneth Paltrow)”.
The diaries are a welcome light-hearted escape from the stresses that so many have shouldered as a result of the pandemic. Capturing the experiences (in a truly royal fashion) that so many have personally lived through in 2020.
