Biography

Adam Hills is one of Australia’s best-known comedians, mainly as the five-time Gold Logie nominated host of his two hit ABC TV series – the music quiz show Spicks and Specks and his unique take on the late-night talk show, Adam Hills Tonight.

Already a gold-plated star in Australia, Adam has now taken the UK by storm with his own talk show on Channel Four, The Last Leg. Originally a one-off series for the 2012 London Paralympics, the British loved him so much it has been on air ever since! Adam has been nominated three times for Best Entertainment Performance for The Last Leg.

In 2020, Adam also managed to sneak home to reboot ‘Spicks’ for a group of specials airing in 2021 on the ABC.

When Adam isn’t dominating the global TV landscape, he is usually somewhere in the world with a microphone in hand doing his day job – globetrotting stand-up comedian. His latest show, Shoes Half Full, was performed at the 2021 Melbourne International Comedy Festival and the 2021 Sydney Comedy Festival.

In January 2022 Adam received an MBE in the New Year Honours list in the UK.

Accepting the award for his services to Paralympic sport and disability awareness, he joked that he didn’t even realise that Australians could receive the honour. He had not told his family in case it was a prank.

He said: ““I am absolutely chuffed to bits to be given this honour. I’ve already googled ‘Australian comedians who have received honours’, ‘when can I start writing MBE after my name?’ and ‘are Australians even eligible for an MBE?’.

“Turns out the answers are ‘Barry Humphries and Clive James’, ‘when you receive the medal’ and ‘yes’.

I’m chuffed to bits to be awarded an MBE and wouldn’t have achieved it without the support of my friends, family, colleagues and teammates. I’m especially honoured to be recognised for Services to Paralympic Sport and Disability Awareness.’
