Biography

Alexander Armstrong is an English actor, comedian, television presenter, radio presenter, and singer and is host of the BBC One game show Pointless.

He was born in Northumberland in the UK and studied English at Cambridge University, where he also sung bass-baritone as a choral scholar in the college choir.

After graduating, he moved to London with friends to pursue a career in acting and comedy. While waiting for acting roles, he worked in several north London bars and restaurants. He was eventually introduced to Ben Miller, who had also moved to London, through the writer Jez Butterworth

In 1996, Armstrong and Miller performed at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and were nominated for the Perrier Award.

His television credits include Armstrong and Miller, a leading role in the TV series Life Begins, Mr Smith in the Doctor Who spin-off The Sarah Jane Adventures and the main show’s two-part story The Stolen Earth / Journey’s End, and the title character in the revived series of Danger Mouse. He is also the narrator of the popular Children’s BBC Series Hey Duggee! and has also voiced Mr Wolf and Captain Dog in Peppa Pig. He has been a frequent guest host on the satirical BBC TV Programme Have I Got News for You.

As a singer, he has released several studio albums.
