Biography

Anthony Head was born in 1954 in Camden, London, England, the younger brother of actor and singer Murray Head. His father was a filmmaker and his mother an actress, so it was perhaps not surprising that he followed his brother into musical theatre. He is also known for many other acting roles, most notably as Rupert Giles in Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997-2003), and the Prime Minister in Little Britain (2003-2006). He first became known to the British public after appearing in the now classic Nescafe Gold Blend Couple Television advertisements in the 1980’s , millions of viewers tuning in to see ‘will they or won’t they ?’

He was educated at Sunbury Grammar School in Middlesex and then London Academy of Music and Drama (LAMDA)

Most of his theatre work from the 1970’s-1990’s was in musicals such as Godspell,The Rocky Horror Show and Chess in which he played the same part, Freddie Trumper, as his brother Murray had done 3 years earlier.

His many television appearances include roles the BBC series Manchild, Silent Witness, Spooks My Family, Monarch of the Glen and Merlin He has also voiced characters in BBC Radio 4 dramas Bleak Expectations and Cabin Pressure, and did the voiceover work for the Nintendo WII game Flip’s Twisted World.

Outside of acting work, he has released an album of songs with musician George Sarah, Music For Elevators. Early on in his career he provided vocals for some tracks on the Chris De Burgh album The Getaway and the reading from ShakesPeare’s The Tempest on Don’t Pay The Ferryman. He also provided vocals for the 1980’s band Red Box.

Anthony’s long-term partner since 1982 is Animal Behaviourist Sarah Fisher. They have two daughters, Emily and Daisy.
