Biography

Ben Hatch was born in London, England, the son of Radio Presenter and producer Sir David Hatch.

He grew up in London, Manchester and in a Buckinghamshire windmill!

He has written for various British newspapers including The Guardian, The Times, The Daily Mail, The Daily Express and The Daily Telegraph.

He has written several bestselling travel books, Road to Rouen: A 10,00 Mile Journey in a Cheese Filled Passat, and Are We Nearly There Yet? 8,000 Miles Round Britain in a Vauxhall Astra. He has also written 3 Frommer’s Travel Guides with his wife Dinah

His novel The P45 Diaries: How to get sacked from every Job in Britain (Previously titled The Lawnmower Celebrity) is loosely based on his largely unsuccessful job record when in his teens and twenties. including being a bank clerk, lawnmower salesman, postman, insurance salesman and private detective.

He claims amongst other things to have the cure for the common cold, that one of his ancestors discovered Neptune and that at 5 foot 9 in he is the ‘tallest Hatch that ever lived’.

He says “I don’t really think it’s possible to be a writer unless you enjoy reading…it’s the greatest form of both escape and comfort (and) makes you realise whatever you’ve felt, you’re not alone”

He lives with his wife Dinah and their 2 children in Brighton, with a 3- legged budgerigar called Tripod. He enjoys eating cheese, playing Monopoly with his family and spiking his hair up to make himself look taller.
