Biography

Clare Grogan was born in Glasgow, Scotland.

She is an actress best known for her role as Susan in Gregory’s Girl (1980) and Kristine Kochanski in Red Dwarf (1988) She also appeared in Father Ted (episode “Rock-a-Hula Ted”) in a thinly veiled parody of Sinéad O’Connor and in EastEnders as Ian Beale’s love interest, Ros Thorne, from 1997–1998.

She featured in a Photo Story as the character Gemma Tate’ in 1981, in British girls’ teen magazine “My Guy”.

She is very well known as the lead singer of 1980’s band Altered Images, with hits such as ‘Happy Birthday’, ‘I Could be Happy’ and ‘Don’t Talk to Me About Love’

It is rumoured that the Spandau Ballet song ‘True’ was written by the band’s songwriter Gary Kemp about his platonic friendship with and unrequited love for Clare, after meeting her on the set of ‘Top of The Pops’ and feeling a connection.

She has been married to Stephen Lironi since 1994 Her husband is former Altered Images bandmate and music producer, who is also a successful London restaurateur. The couple have a daughter.

In 2021, Clare joined Sharleen Spiteri to duet on the Texas track “Look What You’ve Done”.
